South Main Street in Phillipsburg to be closed for emergency repairs to bridge over railroad tracks
Detour in place until further notice
(Trenton) – South Main Street in Phillipsburg is scheduled to be closed and detoured in both directions beginning tonight for emergency bridge repairs
At approximately 7:35 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, April 8, Phillipsburg Police closed South Main Street to vehicles and pedestrians between Hudson Street and Hanover Street for emergency repairs to the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad spur. In addition, NJ TRANSIT Bus Routes 890/891 will be detoured. Check NJ TRANSIT for more information. The larger South Main Street truss bridge over the NJ TRANSIT tracks is not part of the emergency repairs.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation’s highest priority is the safety of the public when traveling on our roads and bridges, and we will not compromise public safety when repairs are necessary. The extent of repairs and how long the bridge may be closed are still being determined.
NJDOT will work closely with the railroad and local officials to advance the repairs as quickly and safely as possible.
